KANGPOKPI, April 16: As part of ‘Samajik Nyay Pakhwada’, Minister of Textiles, Trade, Industry and Cooperation Nemcha Kipgen distributed free rice on Friday under the leadership of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Kangpokpi.
Nemcha Kipgen distributed 5 kg of rice each in a bag printed with the likeness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and herself to all beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that PMGKAY had assured the people that the government was on their side in all issues and that free rations were provided to every household.
She went on to say that the Prime Minister had underscored his sensitivity to the poor and his commitment to the welfare of the weaker sections of society.
Stating that the PMGKAY has helped fight poverty and inequality, the minister said, “The BJP government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has decided to extend the PMGKAY until September this year, in accordance to concern and sensitivity towards the poor and vulnerable sections of society.
“The extension of the food security program for another six months by the dual-engine government will be the 6th phase of the program, with the 5th phase of the program culminating in March. Considered the largest food security program in the world, PMGKAY has been launched in April 2020 during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.
Nemcha Kipgen also mentioned that in the dual engine government, the state government under the leadership of CM N Biren Singh has supplemented and improved the central government scheme.
“It is under the dual engine government that every poor household will receive double the normal amount of ration as each beneficiary will receive an additional free ration of 5kg per month to the normal food grain quota under the NFSA,” she asserted.
