After UP Poll Results, Cooking Gas, More BJP Manifesto Pledges Fuel Officials’ Brainstorming

Days after the UP poll results, Chief Secretary DS Mishra said on Sunday that he had considered every point of the BJP manifesto with a view to implementing them in due course as the government takes a call .

“Although the government will take the final decision on the implementation of the pre-election pledges, I have, for my part, organized a series of meetings with the departments concerned to examine and discuss in detail all the points of the Sankalp Patra ( manifest),” he said.

Mishra also said a strategy was being developed to implement each of the pledges made ahead of the poll, but declined to share details.

The distribution of free household LPG (cooking gas) cylinders (one each) to all beneficiaries of the Ujjwala program on the occasion of Holi is among the pledges made by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its “Sankalp Patra “.

“Since Holi is only a few days away, the government needs to take a call immediately on the issue of delivery (of) free cooking gas cylinders and that is a challenge,” a government official said.

Holi falls on March 18, more than a week after the UP poll results, and there are indications the new government will be sworn in after March 20.

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Executive Director and Head of State Sanjiv Kakkar met with the Chief Secretary here on Friday to discuss issues related to free distribution of domestic cooking gas cylinders to Ujjawala beneficiaries in Holi .

In the meantime, the government is also believed to be considering whether the free LPG bottle at Holi will comply with the Electoral Commission’s code of conduct in place in districts where biennial polls for 36 MLC seats are taking place. are to be held next month.

People familiar with the matter said that another major pre-election pledge of free electricity for farmers (for tube wells) could be implemented from the next financial year (April) and that a proposal to this regard would probably be presented at the very first cabinet meeting. .

“We hope that UP will soon become the sixth state in the country to provide free electricity to farmers very soon and we believe that a proposal in this regard will be presented at the cabinet meeting to be held after the formation of the government. “said UP President Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad, Avdhesh. said Kumar Verma.

The government had already halved the tariff for private tube wells before the election.

Finding a permanent solution to the threat of stray livestock would also be on the government’s agenda given Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to voters that a solution to the problem had been found and would be declared after March 10.

“Relevant departments have been asked to develop an action plan in this regard and make a presentation at a meeting to be chaired by the chief secretary very soon,” another official said.

“Most of the other pre-election pledges could be put on hold for some time until the allocation of funds for these is made in the budget that the new government may table in the assembly in May-June,” he said. he added.
